Mandarin and Cantonese Languages in China:

I understand that the people living in the area between Hong Kong and "Canton" (Guangzhou) primarily spoke Cantonese. However the changes of the last 20 years have brought people from China and many other countries flooding into the area. I believe that the most-commonly-understood Chinese language today is Mandarin, as that language is promoted as the China-Wide language.

English is also used significantly in the business and scientific world in this area.
